Plasma physics and plasma chemistryΒΆ

My first love. Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter, a gas with so much energy that molecules start breaking apart and electrons get loose. My interest and expertise has always been the collisional and radiative processes taking place inside plasmas as well as the interaction of plasmas with surfaces.

One of the cool aspects of plasmas is that the type of chemistry that is possible is very different from that that can be achieved using conventional methods. Consequently, plasmas have been co-opted for a wide range of applications. For instance, they are crucial in semiconductor processing.

My research in this area has focused on understanding the nature of these processes, and how they can be characterized and leveraged for the synthesis and modification of materials.
