One of the things that we humans have in common with ants, termites, and prairie dogs is that we build stuff. Our history has been shaped by our technology and our ability to use available resources to make tools.

My fascination with growth translates into a deep interest on advanced manufacturing: how we can use technology to create new things. The three examples that I am more interested in are semiconductor processing, nanomanufacturing, and additive manufacturing.

As part of my research, I try to connect the fundamentals of growth, and the unique properties of materials with the realities of manufacturing. Can be made fast enough, good enough, and cheap enough are three crucial questions for the viability of novel technologies and breakthroughs taking place in the lab.
